In the original, her name is Edna, and in a subsequent chapter of HtSie when Topper and Edward are talking about her, she is referred to as Edna.
If I may proffer my unsolicited opinion; Edna works better than Agnes. (At least for me.) Agnes (for me) will always be the frazzled, bespectacled, flustered scribe of Mame Dennis in Auntie Mame (Rosalind Russell’s version).
